Unsolved Murder

Kayla was 13 years old when she initially disappeared from Prince Rupert, British Columbia on April 13th, 2004. Tragically, Kayla’s body was found 2 days later near train tracks on a waterfront on Prince Rupert’s George Hills Way.

Kayla’s cause of death was unknown but was classified as being neither suicide or homicide. A teenage girl from a neighbouring village committed suicide several days prior to Kayla’s vanishing. In 2014, the coroner found her death to be due to acute alcohol poisoning. They could not rule out criminal involvement and Kayla’s family continues to challenge this finding. Kayla is also counted unofficially among those claimed by the Highway of Tears.
